At AUREA, our private infrared sauna is one of our most requested wellness treatments — and for good reason. Unlike traditional saunas that heat the air around you, infrared saunas use light waves to penetrate the body directly, raising your core temperature more gently and allowing you to stay longer at a more comfortable ambient temperature.
Here are five evidence-based benefits that keep our clients coming back.
1. Deep detoxification
Infrared heat penetrates up to 4cm beneath the skin’s surface, stimulating a deep sweat that carries out heavy metals, environmental pollutants, and metabolic waste products. Research published in the Journal of Environmental and Public Health found that infrared sauna users excreted significantly higher levels of toxins compared to traditional sauna use.
2. Pain relief and recovery
The deep-penetrating warmth increases circulation and relaxes muscle tissue, making infrared sauna particularly effective for chronic pain, joint stiffness, and post-exercise recovery. Many of our clients book a 40-minute session before a massage to amplify the therapeutic benefits.
3. Improved cardiovascular health
Regular infrared sauna use has been shown to lower blood pressure and improve arterial function. A Finnish study following over 2,000 men found that those who used a sauna 4–7 times per week had a 63% lower risk of sudden cardiac death compared to once-a-week users.
4. Better sleep
The gentle rise and fall in core body temperature mimics the natural circadian rhythm signal that tells your body it is time to sleep. Clients consistently report deeper, more restorative sleep on the nights following a session.
5. Skin clarity
Increased circulation brings more oxygen and nutrients to the skin’s surface, while sweating helps to clear pores. Over time, regular sessions can improve skin tone, reduce blemishes, and give a natural, healthy glow that no product can quite replicate.
How to get the most from your session
We recommend arriving hydrated and avoiding heavy meals for at least an hour beforehand. Our sessions last 40 minutes at a gentle 45–60°C — far more comfortable than the 80–100°C of a traditional Finnish sauna. Afterwards, cool down gradually with a cold flannel and a glass of water infused with electrolytes.
For the best results, we suggest a course of 4–6 sessions over consecutive weeks. Many clients then maintain the benefits with a monthly visit.
